Brow Lift

Brow lift surgery (also known as a forehead lift) corrects lowered, drooping brows and smoothes furrows and creases on the forehead and between the eyes. This gentle lift can help to open up the area around the eyes and restore a more youthful, revitalized appearance. A brow lift may also be combined with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) or a face lift (rhytidectomy) for complete facial rejuvenation.

What You Need To Know
About Brow Lift Surgery

The brow lift procedure involves lifting the brow to a higher, more natural position on the forehead for improved appearance.

Mild to moderate cases may benefit from an endoscopic method. During this procedure, surgical instruments are inserted through small incisions made within the hairline. The brows are lifted and fixed into a higher position. More advanced cases may require more conventional surgery, in which a long incision is made which follows the hairline. A section of skin is then removed to tighten the forehead skin and raise the position of the eyebrows.

The plastic surgeons at Healing Waters can evaluate your current condition and desired outcome to help you determine which brow lift method is best for you.

Brow Lift Surgery Information

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a candidate?

Aging, and in some cases, heredity, can cause the skin above the eye area to stretch and sag, lowering the brow line, creating wrinkles, and producing a tired or unhappy look. A brow lift can help soften facial expression, re-open tired looking eyes, and correct obstructed vision due to heavy eyelids. If you are concerned with the appearance of deep wrinkles on your forehead, frown lines between your eyes, or sagging eyebrows, you might benefit from a brow lift.

Ideal candidates should be nonsmoking, in good general health and fit for surgery.

Our plastic surgeons will provide you with detailed information and expert guidance. For more information about brow lift or a recommendation for the best facial rejuvenation procedure to address your concerns, contact Healing Waters to schedule a plastic surgery consultation.

What to expect post-surgery?

Following surgery, you can expect swelling as well as pain and discomfort that can be managed with rest and medication. Brow lift surgery involves incisions, the extent to which varies depending upon the surgical method. Bruising should begin to resolve after a couple of weeks. Cold compresses and sleeping with your head elevated can help to alleviate swelling. Open brow lift patients may experience some numbness along the incision (usually temporary).

What are the risks?

Although considered rare, some of the potential risks and complications associated with brow lift surgery include bleeding or hematoma, problems with anesthesia, infection, delayed healing, loss of sensation, unfavorable scarring, hair loss, discoloration, eye dryness or irritation, or asymmetrical results.

Your plastic surgeon will discuss the procedure and risks with you in detail. To help minimize potential complications, it is important to follow your surgeon’s pre and post-operative instructions carefully.

Will there be scarring?

The degree and location of scars will depend upon the brow lift method used. An endoscopic brow lift requires small incisions that are typically hidden within the hairline. During an open brow lift, a long incision is made that extends along the hairline from ear to ear. This will result in a longer scar that is usually hidden within the scalp or hairline. If your hairline is higher or receding, you may be left with a thin, visible scar. As some patients are prone to developing keloid (red or raised) or hypertrophic (dark in color) scars, it is important to advise your surgeon if you have a history of unfavorable or unsightly scarring and discuss your options.

Is a brow lift enough?

Sometimes patients with drooping brows also experience excess skin and sagging of the upper eyelids or bags under the eyes. Some individuals elect to combine a brow lift with eyelid surgery for a complete revitalization of the upper face and eye area. For a personal consultation with a plastic surgeon and help determining the best approach to reach your aesthetic goals, contact Healing Waters today.

How long will the results last?

Typically, brow lift results can last for five to ten years in patients who practice good skincare including sun protection, maintain a healthy lifestyle and do not smoke. In some cases, heredity or poor health and skincare habits may lead to results diminishing within five years.

When can I return to work?

Recovery time will vary by the degree of correction necessary and the surgical technique used. Many patients return to work within two to three weeks or less depending upon privacy preferences and the nature of their work.
