Facial implants are used in facial contouring surgery and are designed for placement in the cheeks, chin, or jaw to improve symmetry, contour, and shape. Slack, recessed, or undefined facial features can be enhanced and brought into beautiful proportion. For optimal balance in facial profile, facial implant surgery may be combined with other contouring procedures such as nose surgery, facelift, ear pinning, or eyelid surgery.
Facial implant surgery can benefit men and women who wish to achieve better proportion in their facial structure. Through the use of implants, the plastic surgeons at Healing Waters can lengthen or augment a slack jaw, extend a recessed chin, or add definition and shape to hollow cheeks to create a pleasantly sculpted, flattering profile.
During surgery, the incisions are strategically placed to be less conspicuous and to minimize visible scarring. Incisions are typically made inside the mouth or on the lower eyelid for cheek implants, inside the mouth for jaw implants, and inside the lower lip or under the chin for chin implants. The implants are then inserted, affixed, and the area is sutured.
Whether you are seeking a chiseled jawline, higher cheeks, or a fuller face, our plastic surgeons are passionate about helping you attain results that will help you look and feel your best. Contact Healing Waters today to schedule a consultation.

Following surgery, you can expect swelling as well as pain and discomfort that can be managed with rest and medication. Depending upon the type of implant, it may be necessary to keep the head elevated for a few days. Recovery time will vary with the patient and the procedure. Generally, swelling can take up to six weeks to fully subside and for the final result to be apparent.
Although uncommon, some of the complications associated with facial implant surgery include bleeding, hematoma, infection, complications from anesthesia, problematic scarring, increased sensitivity or numbness, implant shifting or malposition, or the need for revision.
Your plastic surgeon will thoroughly review the procedure and risks with you prior to surgery, and will be happy to address any questions or concerns you may have.
The location of the incisions will depend upon the type of implant, and the surgical technique used. Many of the incisions that are made in facial implant surgery are inside of the mouth, leaving no visible scars. Other incisions are made as inconspicuously as possible for minimum visibility.
As a small proportion of patients are prone to problematic scarring, you should disclose any known history of keloid (red or raised) or hypertrophic (dark in color) scarring with your plastic surgeon prior to undergoing surgery.
Recoveries will vary with individual patients and the procedure. With most facial implant procedures, patients usually return to work within seven to ten days though strenuous activity will need to be avoided for longer. Some swelling or bruising may still be present. Combined procedures may necessitate a more extended recovery period.
Strenuous activity, heavy exercise, and contact sports all increase the likelihood of complications developing after surgery. As a general rule, vigorous activity should be avoided for up to four weeks. Your plastic surgeon will provide you with personalized post-operative instructions and advice suited to your particular procedure and individual circumstances.
Facial implant surgery may be combined with a variety of other contouring procedures for a more complete facial enhancement. Facelift, nose surgery, eyelid surgery, brow lift, and ear pinning are a few of the additional facial contouring surgeries that may be combined with facial implants. Some patients elect to have more than one type of implant surgically placed. Other non-surgical alternatives may also be explored in conjunction with the facial implant procedure.
Your Healing Waters plastic surgeon will consult with you to examine your facial skin and structure, discuss your unique wishes and goals, and will recommend a customized and maximally beneficial treatment plan.
Unlike injectable facial fillers, facial implants provide a long-term solution for patients seeking improved symmetry, shape, and contour.
Healing Waters offers a complete spectrum of surgical and nonsurgical options for facial contouring. Facial fillers can be injected to restore or enhance volume and fullness. Injectable fillers provide results that can last for six months or longer, but do eventually fade. For some patients, injectable facial fillers may provide a way to try out a new contour before deciding whether to proceed with implants.
If you would like to learn more about your surgical or nonsurgical options for facial enhancement, contact Healing Waters today to schedule a consultation.
