Laser Peels

MicroLaserPeel® and NanoLaserPeel™ are superficial, ablative laser resurfacing treatments of varying intensity for removing the outermost layer of skin. A laser peel treatment will reveal new, beautifully smooth and luminous skin underneath.

 Superficial Skin Resurfacing

Nothing shows age like our skin. If your skin looks dull and tired, you may be considering (or already doing) treatments like a chemical peel or microdermabrasion. These are treatments that use chemicals or abrasive materials to remove the top layer of the skin, revealing new skin underneath.

MicroLaserPeel and NanoLaserPeel are the next level of aggressiveness in the continuum of treatments to improve your skin tone, texture and color. With both treatments, a laser beam scans your desired treatment area to precisely ablate (i.e., vaporize) a very thin layer of skin, removing old, damaged tissue. This process activates messenger cells to trigger the body’s natural healing process. As the skin heals, fresh cells grow and resurface the treated area. The result is healthier-looking skin, often with reduced wrinkles and improved color evenness. Patients often say that it looks like their skin went from looking tired to vibrant.

With MicroLaserPeel and NanoLaserPeel, treatment can be administered with great precision of depth providing superior results. Furthermore, the procedure can be custom tailored to your specific skin conditions and desired outcome creating smoother, younger-looking skin with one easy treatment.

Superficial skin resurfacing with a MicroLaserPeel and NanoLaserPeel is a quick, safe and effective treatment. Most patients compare it to microdermabrasion at 2-4 times the strength and intensity. Either of these cosmetic laser skin procedures take only 30 minutes, and can even be done over your lunch break.

Our Sciton Laser Peels effectively treat the following skin conditions:

  • Mild wrinkles
  • Scars
  • Keratosis (i.e., looks like “goose bumps”)
  • Sun damage (i.e., brown spots)
  • Other pigment irregularities

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a candidate?

Because this procedure ablates deeper into the epidermis, it is the perfect step for patients seeking something between microdermabrasion and full skin resurfacing. Anyone wishing to reduce or delay the signs of aging, postpone more aggressive surgical treatments or prolong the results of previous treatments can benefit from a MicroLaserPeel and NanoLaserPeel. Individuals presenting with fine lines, pigmentation and scars can typically benefit from laser peels.

What to expect post-treatment?

Immediately post-treatment the skin will develop a frosty appearance. This is the dehydrated skin that will peel away over the next few days following treatment. You may experience some redness and a sensation similar to that of sunburn with minor sloughing on the second day. Redness will begin to fade by the third day, and can easily be covered by makeup on the fourth day. It is also normal to experience mild swelling. You will probably want to plan for some downtime while your skin is healing. The procedure can be performed on a Thursday or Friday, allowing you to return to work the following Monday.

What sort of downtime should I expect?

You probably want to plan for a day or two at home while you’re looking slightly red (similar to a sunburn). The downtime associated with this highest strength MicroLaserPeel® is typically 5-7 days as it’s essentially a light (meaning a relatively shallow skin depth) full skin resurfacing procedure. Downtime for the lower intensity NanoLaserPeel™ downtime is 24-72 hours.

What happens during my laser peel?

Your skin will be cleansed and a topical numbing cream applied to alleviate any mild discomfort, though there should be minimal pain or discomfort because of the light depth of this peel. Your eyes will be covered with protective shields. The laser handpiece will be positioned above the skin and held in place as the computer-guided scanner moves the laser beam around the treatment area. Depending on the size of the area being treated, the procedure usually lasts 15-30 minutes.

A cooling air blast blown directly on the areas being treated throughout the procedure serves as further anesthetic to soothe and cool the skin.

Will it be uncomfortable?

One of the primary advantages of NanoLaserPeel is that it causes little pain because it does not penetrate very deeply into the skin. At its most shallow settings, most people can tolerate treatment with no anesthetic at all.

How do I boost my laser peel results?

For an additional boost to the skin rejuvenation you get from a MicroLaserPeel®, consider combination laser therapy. The benefits of well-planned combination treatments are: maximum skin improvement results, in the least amount of time, and achieved most cost-effectively.

MicroLaserPeel® is frequently combined with Pro-Fractional™ or BBL™ photofacial procedures. If even more aggressive results are desired, Deep Resurfacing may be a better option for you.
