Botox & Dysport

Injectable neurotoxins are substances that work to temporarily weaken the facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. When these muscles are relaxed, facial lines can soften or disappear, creating a refreshed or more youthful appearance.

Reduce the Appearance of Wrinkles

Over time, continual use of muscles in the face, brow, or around the mouth can lead to the formation of unwanted lines or creases. Wrinkle relaxing treatments can help to relax overactive muscles through a series of injections designed to smooth the appearance of the face and limit or delay the formation of new lines.

Typical problem areas that may benefit from wrinkle relaxers include forehead lines, crow’s feet, frown lines, upper lip lines, chin dimpling, and lines around the nose. A consultation with one of our certified health care professionals at Healing Waters can help guide you in determining the best treatment option for you.

The specific wrinkle relaxers offered by Healing Waters include:

Botox is an injectable purified neurotoxin produced from the Clostridium bacteria that relaxes contracting muscles (usually for three or four months). It can take from a few days to a couple of weeks to see the full results. Botox is often used to temporarily diminish frown lines in the area between the eyebrows, though it can treat other dynamic lines and wrinkles for a smoother, more relaxed look.

Made from the same neurotoxin contained in Botox, Dysport is used to temporarily ease and smooth out wrinkles in the upper facial region and soften the appearance of fine lines around the eyes or mouth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a candidate?

Wrinkle relaxers work best in treating facial creases and lines that are caused by muscle activity. Wrinkles, lines, or creases that are present at rest or deeply engrained may or may not respond as well to treatment. If you are seeking a minimally invasive, non-surgical alternative to temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines caused by muscle activity, you may benefit from a wrinkle relaxer.

Wrinkle relaxing treatment is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a skin infection, have certain neurological or neuromuscular disorders, or are allergic to or have experienced side effects from any of the ingredients.

At Healing Waters, our aim is to deliver optimal results with a minimum of complication. Prior to treatment, the procedure, risks, and benefits will be discussed with you. It is important that you inform us of your medical conditions, allergies, and any prescription and nonprescription medications, supplements and vitamins you are taking. Additionally, be sure to let us know about previous or recent wrinkle relaxation treatment you’ve had.

To find out more about wrinkle relaxers or other aesthetic treatment options, we encourage you to contact Healing Waters for a consultation.

What to expect post-treatment?

Results may vary by individual and with the type of wrinkle relaxation treatment used. Aftercare instructions will be tailored to your specific needs. In general, patients may experience some discomfort (usually short-lived) with the procedure, but are typically able to resume work and most normal (non-strenuous) activity immediately afterward. Following treatment, there may be some bruising, and some patients may develop a temporary headache. Patients may be asked to remain upright for a few hours, to avoid massaging the treated areas, and to avoid taking certain vitamins or medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or vitamin E for at least 24 hours.

Results usually become noticeable after a few days or within one or two weeks. Wrinkle relaxers are temporary, and the effects will gradually diminish, requiring repeat injections for maintenance, if desired.

Is it painful?

Some patients may experience some discomfort or a stinging sensation with the injections. A local anesthetic cream may be applied prior to the procedure.

What are the risks?

Specific risks may vary with individual patients and with the type and scope of the wrinkle relaxation treatment. The procedure, benefits, and risks will be discussed with you prior to treatment. Some of the potential complications associated with wrinkle relaxers may include: twitching, drooping brows or eyelids, headaches, bruising, bleeding, swelling, pain, asymmetry, a “frozen” appearance, flu-like symptoms, cold sores (if prone), double vision, bags under the eye, neck weakness, difficulty with swallowing or speaking, allergic reactions, or shortness of breath. Additionally, a small percentage of patients may produce antibodies that cause the treatment to become ineffective.

How long do the results last?

Depending upon the type of wrinkle relaxing treatment administered, results are often noticeable within one or two weeks, and sometimes sooner. Occasionally, certain wrinkles that are deeply set take longer to soften, or may benefit from additional treatment options. Overall, individual results will vary. On average, effects may last approximately three to four months, gradually diminishing. Repeat injections would be necessary to continue to maintain the benefits of treatment.

For more information about specific wrinkle relaxers, contact Healing Waters to arrange a consultation.

Will I need to have it done again?

Because the effects of the wrinkle relaxing treatment will eventually wear off (usually in approximately three to four months), additional injections may be recommended to maintain your results. Your Healing Waters health care professional can guide you in determining the best options or treatment plan for your unique needs and desired outcome.
