The specific risks vary with the type of filler used and the individual. Treatment recommendations, procedures, and risks will be discussed in detail during your consultation and before treatment. Some complications of injectable fillers include bruising or discoloration, pain, swelling, allergic reaction, infection, numbness, or nodules/granulomas (lumps).

Dermal and facial fillers are injected into targeted areas where the skin has creased or lost volume by experienced nurse injectors. The type of filler and the number and location of the injections will be individually customized for maximum effectiveness and natural-looking results.

The injection(s) can cause discomfort (usually mild) depending upon the depth required for optimal results. Topical anesthesia may be used, and the dermal fillers have lidocaine in the syringe. Your nurse injector will discuss options with you to help minimize any discomfort.

There is typically little to no downtime associated with dermal filler treatments. You may experience some mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site, but these side effects typically resolve within a few hours to a few days.

Before your dermal filler treatment, it is important to avoid alcohol, blood thinners, and anti-inflammatory medications for at least 24 hours. During the treatment, your healthcare provider will clean the area and inject the filler using a fine needle. After the treatment, it is essential to avoid lying down for at least 4 hours, rubbing or massaging the treated area, and avoiding intense exercise for at least 24 hours. It is also important to avoid exposing the treated area to excessive heat or sunlight, which can cause the filler to break down more quickly.
