Strenuous activity should be avoided for some time, generally two to four weeks. It is essential to follow all advice and post-op instructions carefully to help prevent unwanted complications.

While most patients experience outstanding results with minimal complications, a few of the complications include infection, bleeding, uneven (asymmetrical) shape, abnormal scarring, and loss of nipple sensation.

The surgical technique will determine the resulting scars' nature and visibility. Incisions are often made around the areola but can be made elsewhere on the chest and armpit (for liposuction). Some patients may be prone to forming keloid (red or raised) or hypertrophic (dark in color) scars.
